At the 8th annual Google for India event, Google has announced a host of new AI and machine learning-based features including India-first innovations. One of these features is the new deep learning-based fraud detection on Google Pay.

According to the company, people moved to digital payment options like card payment or UPI payments during the pandemic and that brought convenience to users. However, the company has mentioned that this also led to human errors and it becomes really difficult to determine whether a payment request is legitimate or not.
Google has mentioned that although it uses “advanced methods in our safety engine that analyze aggregate transaction patterns of millions of users, relating this to a graph of a billion nodes. This system helps identify possible flags of fraudulent behaviour, then uses its intelligent language engine to flash a warning and notify the user in their most preferred language. In some cases, we also generate a quick vibration to really get your attention!”.
As a part of new innovation, the company has introduced a new useful feature in Google Pay that makes it easier for users to access transaction history. Users can now use their voice to ask simple queries like “Show me how much I spent on coffee last week”. This will allow users to monitor their spending on a regular basis.
The company has also confirmed that “our product strategy. We focus on the fundamentals of security and software development to design products that are secure by default, private by design and put users in control. While people navigate the internet, it is important that they get safe access to quality information.”
