Technology giant Google has announced an artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning model which can identify and highlight medicines mentioned in doctors’ prescriptions.
At the Google for India 2022 event held yesterday, the technology behemoth said the new model will act as an assistive technology to digitise handwritten medical documents. The technology will augment pharmacists in the loop, Google said in its blog. However, the company said no decision will be made solely on the basis of the output by this technology. The feature is currently under development.
Google also introduced features for people to search and look for information through visual medium. The company introduced Multisearch feature, which can help people to look for information using images and text simultaneously.
As per this feature, the user needs to open the camera in the Google app to take a picture or use a screenshot and add a text to the question. This feature is available in English in India and will be soon brought out in several Indian languages next year, starting with Hindi.
Google also announced a new speech recognition model to understand people who speak in English. The search engine giant said the feature works on a neural-network inspired speech recognition model that takes into account the individual’s accents, surrounding sounds, context, and speaking styles.
To ensure users have easy access to their authentic digital documents directly from the Files by Google app on Android, the company said it has partnered with the National eGovernance Division (NeGD).
“We use a custom AI model to scan for and identify key documents from across your phone, which then uses our proven OCR technology and machine learning models to recognize relevant text and collate this important information into a quick and simple view. And all of these models run offline, completely on device, and cannot be accessed by anyone, including Google”, the company said on its blog.
