The Israeli army continues to fight the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in the Gaza Strip, it said on Sunday, giving details of the attack on a hospital.

Among other things, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) bombed a suspected PIJ compound in the compound of Al-Aqsa hospital in Deir al-Balah.

Four people were killed in the attack, according to Gaza health officials. A tent in the square was attacked and 17 people were injured, including four journalists, Palestinian media reported.

The IDF said the members of the terrorist group are in the jihadist command center. However, the press office in Gaza said that the tent that was attacked belonged to people seeking asylum.

The hospital was not damaged, the IDF said. The command center was attacked deliberately to minimize the damage to those standing by in the hospital, the military said, without giving details.

No information could be confirmed at first.

The statement came a day after the army hit 80 locations along the coast, including military bases and areas where Hamas members live, the IDF said.

The army is continuing its operation against terrorists who have been holed up in the Shifa hospital in Gaza City in the northern part of the coastal region, according to the IDF. People were killed in several hospital buildings, according to reports, and the military said that terrorists were killed.

On the steps, soldiers chased and exchanged fire with armed and elite Hamas members, killing them in the process.

The army also found hidden weapons in the maternity ward of the largest hospital in the Gaza Strip. Bullets were found in pillows, blankets and walls, the IDF said.

Israel accuses the Islamist group Hamas of misusing hospitals for military purposes, an accusation Hamas denies.

Israel wants to end Hamas but faces growing opposition at home and abroad over the growing number of casualties and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

So far, 32,782 people have been killed and 75,298 injured in Gaza according to health officials in the Strip since the beginning of the war, which was unleashed when Hamas and other terrorists killed about 1,200 people in southern Israel.

Later, the Israeli army targeted a vehicle in neighboring Lebanon, killing a key commander of the Shiite militia Hezbollah.

“Shortly after, an IAF plane hit a vehicle in the Kounine area of ‚Äč‚ÄčLebanon where Ismail Al-Zin was. Al-Zin was a key leader in the Anti-Tank Missile Unit of Hezbollah’s Radwan Forces,” Israel. Defense Forces (IDF) said in writing on X.

“Al-Zin was a key source of information on anti-tank missiles and launched numerous anti-tank attacks against Israeli civilians, communities and security forces.”

Details could not be confirmed at first.

The Israeli military also claimed rocket fire in Lebanon hit Israeli border towns on Sunday. One soldier was wounded internally. The army attacked targets in southern Lebanon in response, he said.

Cross-border military operations have been taking place almost daily since the Gaza War began late last year.

The escalation, which has resulted in deaths on both sides of the border, is the worst since the 2006 Lebanon War.
