Garmin Forerunner 165 Review: Better Feels, Same Great Lessons


Even more so advance exercise I can’t handle anything. While testing the Garmin Forerunner 165 Track, I became very ill and spent two days in bed. There’s nothing more annoying than your fitness tracker letting you know you’ve had too much sleep and your Body Battery is at 100 because you’re struggling to stay hydrated. It’s annoying when your kids call out to ask you if you’re still in the bathroom.

When I started working out again, the watch advised me to build my base with a long run. This pace is too slow, especially since I live next door to a college full of long-legged young people, putting me to shame with their energetic, youthful, and optimistic pace. However, I persevere. My legs feel better. The Forerunner has allowed me to complete tempo runs, and my heart rate is lower than ever. Amazing!

The Forerunner 165 is the latest entry in Garmin’s Forerunner series, but there are no duds in the Forerunner series. If you are the first runner who can get barebones First 55 Under $200, that’s a great deal! However, the Forerunner 165 has a few extra features that, for me, justify the extra money.

General information

The Forerunner 165 looks like your standard Garmin technology. It has the familiar design of five buttons – three on the left and two on the right – with a tough and chemical coating, a polymer bezel, and a silicone strap. Note: You should wash the belt every two to three days if you don’t want to get blisters on your hands. It now also has a new, bright AMOLED display that I had no problem viewing in bright, direct sunlight.

It’s also transparent, so the number of times I’ve mysteriously failed to browse the button has dropped dramatically. Similar to the times I accidentally call contacts only to hold down the wrong button for too long. (It’s the Up button on the left. Don’t touch that button unless you’re in trouble.)

The higher-end Forerunner models are aimed at multi-sport runners, but the Forerunner 165 is aimed more at runners. In addition to customizable, customizable training plans, you can also view metrics like speed and cadence on the screen on your wrist, as well as some of Garmin’s more esoteric metrics, such as Education Howwhich helps you determine how each workout affects your overall performance.

The reason you get the Forerunner 165 over the Forerunner 55 is that in addition to a better display, you also get more sensors. In addition to the well-known GPS, Glonass, and Galileo, which give you the opportunity to independently track the correct direction – the Forerunner 165 has a pulse oximetry blood oxygen sensor, as well as a barometric altimeter, a compass, and an ambient light sensor.
