Three ships carrying aid to Gaza from Cyprus are expected on Monday

Cargo ships and two small ships carrying hundreds of tons of aid to the Gaza Strip from Cyprus were sailing in calm seas without incident, Cypriot government officials told dpa on Sunday.

Cypriot radio reported that the freighter Jennifer and the tugboats Open Arms and Ledra Dynamic were expected to arrive at the beach on Monday afternoon.

The release of goods is expected to be difficult. A temporary boat has been built, and one of these boats is towing a platform full of support material, with the intention of using it to transfer the material to the well.

There is no proper port along the Gaza Strip, and the sea is shallow.

This is the second aid given at sea from Cyprus. About two nights ago, a passenger boat with the same name, Open Arms, brought 200 tons of supplies and food to the Gaza Strip.

The non-governmental organization (NGO) World Central Kitchen was responsible for the distribution of humanitarian aid – and that is the plan this time.

The government of Cyprus expects to complete a large floating port off the coast of the Gaza Strip by mid-April.

“The aim is to send more cargo on each trip, but this will only happen when the platform provided by the Americans is finished,” Cypriot Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos told the country’s radio after the ships left Larnaca on Saturday. .
