The donor wants more international support for Israel to work with the UN

Philippe LazzariniThe Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), called for increased international support for Israel to work with the UN.

In Friday post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, Lazzarini mentioned On Thursday, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued an order to Israel to help aid humanitarian access to Gaza. The law also noted that there is no substitute for crossing over land to obtain supplies.

“Members must push harder to implement the ICJ order,” Lazzarini said in a statement. “Those who have stopped donating to UNRWA should reconsider their decision to allow the organization to fulfill its mission including helping to fight hunger.”

Finally a weekCindy McCain, the head of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), said that there is an urgent need for food in Gaza amid the ongoing war there.

“[O]Your obstacles are many,” McCain said in an interview with MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports”. We need clear, unfettered ways to step in, so we can feed millions of people who are on the brink of starvation. “

The ICJ order follows a request from South Africa for the UN’s top court to do more after an initial ruling in January failed to resolve the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. In its latest ruling, the ICJ said the situation in Gaza had deteriorated since January.

“The Court notes with regret that, since that time, the precarious life of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip has worsened,” the ICJ said in the order, “mainly due to the lack of food and other basic necessities for a long time. The basic needs of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip was pursued.”
