About two years later a public dispute erupted between the Walt Disney Company and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis-includes forfeiture and renaming of Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District to the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District – resolution passed.

What started DeSantis’ retaliation for Disney’s stand against the state’s “Don’t be Gay” law.which prohibits talking about sex and gender identity in primary schools, led to a a court of law about whether the government is forcing the company to waive First Amendment rights by taking away Disney Parks’ long-held rights to development of their properties. Instead, DeSantis acknowledged the government’s figures as a hedge against future development if Disney continues to fall out of line.

After much back and forth there is now a conflict. The AP reports related DeSantis and Disney “reached a settlement Wednesday in federal court fighting the future of Walt Disney World following the takeover of the resort by Florida’s governor.”

That means DeSantis’ nominees won’t appear in any last-minute changes to the plan that Disney replaced shortly after the takeover. It also means that development agreements and restrictive covenants have been established after repossession is not appropriate. The two groups have agreed that a complete plan from 2020 — i.e., before the full dispute began — will be used as a template until the DeSantis-backed group and Disney strike a new development deal.

Jeff Vahle, president of Walt Disney World Resort, released a statement to the AP that “this agreement opens a new chapter of constructive dialogue with the new leadership of the region and serves the interests of all parties by helping to continue to sell and generate more revenue. thousands of direct and indirect jobs. and economic opportunities in the state.”
