Breaking Down Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s Heartstring-Pulling Super Bowl Trailer

Whatever the answer, this is the only correct reaction to Peter Quill flirting with you. Absolute disgust and a complete shut down. Perfect. No notes.

Even if this new trailer doesn’t really tell us more than we’ve seen from Guardians 3there’s something about this trailer that is… intriguing. We know that this is going to be The End for a lot of players—Gunn and Bautista, and perhaps for other characters as well, like Bradley Cooper’s Rocket. In this trailer, there’s a lot less cracking jokes and a lot more focus on loss, resolution, and endings. I’m not about to get my hopes up, but there’s something here that makes me think that if Gunn plays his cards (and his characters) right, this film might actually deliver a satisfying final arc for the trilogy.

But, it is Marvel, so how much of an ending can we truly expect? I’m skeptical, but they’ve long said that this is at least the end of this iteration of the intergalactic superteam. We’ll find out just how definitive that end is when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters May 5, 2023.
