Draymond Green did not allow the injury to prevent him from sharing the court with Klay Thompson.
On Sunday night, Thompson returned to the Army line for the first time in 941 days. The 31-year-old striker missed a series of injuries after being injured by ACL and Achillies, and sat in the first 38 games of the Golden State 2021-22 campaign when he defended himself.
The alliance between the Warriors and the Cavaliers brought the “Big Three” of the Bay Area Green, Thompson and Stephen Curry back together, but a tragic injury disrupted the long-awaited reunion. Golden State recently announced that Green had met with it “left cow cow” during exercise, and it seems he will be forced to stay out.
But Thompson’s moment was crucial to Green’s absence. He decided to sit down to restart the opening tip, and then immediately did the awkward thing to get out. Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters after the game that he had briefed Cavs coach JB Bickerstaff, and Cleveland agreed to let the opening process take place this way.
Draymond Green is not playing tonight (bullshit left), but still wants to sit down with Klay to get back.
That’s why Green was present at the opening and did badly to watch the game ❤️ pic.twitter.com/puAzOy3rxe

“[It meant] very much, ” Thompson said when asked about Green gesture. “I mean, I can’t wait to play with Dray again. It makes my life so much easier to hunt down and play defense. We’ve been together on top of the hill. We’ve been through crazy battles.
“I have a history with Steph and Dray so it was really nice to be there with these two before the game and put it all together.”
Thompson finished with 17 points in a 7-of-18 shot in the Warriors’ 1996 -82 victory over the Cavs, but did not worry too much about his numbers. He just enjoyed “even looking at the stat sheet and seeing my name there.”
“I’m just happy to compete again,” Thompson said. “The way is gone, and I’m proud of the endurance. It was a very special time. [that] I will never forget it. Anyway, I don’t say the same thing about winning a race, but dad, it was really hard. “Just going out and shooting the ball, playing defense and competing, I mean, dad, it was special.”
