Lakers goalkeeper Russell Westbrook is expected to be a key player in their quest for the NBA title. Those expectations have been very low so far.
Westbrook, who has 18.7 points, 8.2 rebounds and 8.1 points on 43.7 per cent shots this season, has scored 23 points in his last three games as he tries an 8-of-40 shot. The Lakers have lost two of the three games and lost their last eight of their 13 matches starting on December 17.
While former Los Angeles midfielder LeBron James has excelled this season, with approximately 29.1 points and 7.4 rebounds with 6.6 assistants, Westbrook’s problems and injury problems with Lakers player Anthony Davis have hampered the team’s ability to achieve its potential, as well as injuries and non-compliance with COVID -19. .
Despite concerns in court, Westbrook shared a recent interview with Sam Amick of Athletic that he is still happy to live in Los Angeles, because he is a native of SoCal and still lives close to his parents and children.
“I could stay home and be able to receive them,” Westbrook said he said. “They see me, and when I grow up, I see my kids every day and take them to school every morning. For me, that gives me happiness. ”
Here’s more from Westbrook’s interview.
Basketball not ‘all-you-can-have-all’:
Although Westbrook may be in the stock market before the deadline of Feb. 10, said he was not concerned about what fans and TV stations thought of him.
“I swear, no one can think of me because everyone thinks of basketball as the end-all, but isn’t it, you know?” he he said. “Players — everyone has his own opinion. But I truly believe that I can (stay in LA) and hug my kids, it makes them – and a smile on my face no matter what is going on here. “
Westbrook’s fitness in Los Angeles was met with suspicion when he was traded to the Lakers to track down Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, leaders Kyle Kuzma and Montrezl Harrell and select No. 22 in 2021 NBA Draft last July. The Lakers were ranked 23rd in a 3-point percentage last season and needed more space around James and Davis. Westbrook is a 30.5% three-point shooting project.
This season, the Lakers are 14th in three places, but Westbrook are shooting just 28.3% from a distance. (Note: Westbrook-low performance from three is 22.1% and came in 2009 with Thunder.)
Westbrook had to change his style of play with the Lakers – who played the most football games – in an attempt to play more with James.
It should not always work for the Lakers, who have followed a five-game losing streak with five wins in six competitions and then two losses in the last 13 games. Their high and low, unbeaten game with the Lakers 21-21 in the middle of the season, the 7th best in the Western Conference.
“We’re all trying to think as a team, as a part, so we can say, ‘Well, how do we know this?'” Westbrook said in a statement. “And I know I’m the one who has to be very committed – and I understand – so I have to find a way to be able to do better and do better. For this team that’s it.
Will Westbrook be sold?
With a month to go before the final trading date, it is unknown whether Westbrook will be ousted from Los Angeles.
Preparing to make $ 44.2 million this season with the player selecting next season for more than $ 47 million, finding a suit to take on the big contract that Westbrook claimed will now be difficult.
According to Amick, the 76ers are said to be uninterested in “zero” on Westbrook sales and possibly ahead of Ben Simmons. Another package of rumors has been with Timberwolves defending D’Angelo Russell, though it does not seem to be that difficult.
For now, however, Westbrook knows what is possible and says he is happy in Los Angeles, despite a court battle.
“Regardless of whether (commercial) it happened or not, nothing will change my mind or my intention,” Westbrook told Amick. “I feel like I have a bigger goal than basketball and I’m always in front of me no matter what happens in high school.”
